THE CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK STEM RESEARCH ACADEMY SPRING 2023 - APPLICATION DEADLINE JANUARY 20, 2023

The SRA is a two-semester program: a spring pre-college science course and a summer research  experience; contingent on CDC guidelines with COVID-19, both are designed to provide students within opportunity to build essential literacy and numeracy skills by engaging in authentic inquiry activities.Selected students will be enrolled in an in-person Spring 2023 DNA Detectives course. Students will be required to follow the City University of New York’s (CUNY) mandate on COVID-19 requirements– proof of vaccination + booster or religious exception or medical exemption to participate in the springand summer academies. Upon successful completion of the research science course, students will havethe opportunity to apply to the Summer Research Internship. Students will be partnered with a CityCollege faculty member and will pursue a research topic of interest or research the faculty mentor hasin progress.Program Description and ScheduleSPRING 2023 (2/14/23 – 6/1/23)–25 students will be enrolled in a 54 hour science research course.This course will meet Tuesday and Thursday in-person on the City College of New York campus.Students can receive a high school elective credit in science for successful completion. Students who successfully complete the course for HS credit will have the opportunity to apply for amore advanced summer STEM research project. SUMMER 2023 (6/29 – 8/3/23; subject to change)– 10 of the original 25 students will participate in a five or six weeks structured research/internship program, where they will be matched with a City College faculty member based as much as possible on the student’s area of interest. Students will be required to work in an in-person research lab four to five days a week and/or Saturdays, and complete a short project and presentation. Students who successfully complete the research internship and project may be eligible for a $1,000 stipend.

The cost of the program is FREE to the students.

In Person Camp

ONE DAY CAMP! Students will conduct aircraft flight testing in a similar manner done at flight test centers. They will assess the expected outcome, plan and conduct a test, collect and analyze data to determine if their hypothesis is proven correct or not. Students will conduct takeoff testing by varying airplane gross weight and seeing the effects on runway takeoff distance.

Unite is a four-to-six week, pre-collegiate summer experience for talented high school students from groups historically underserved in STEM. NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS - SEEK -SUMMER ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE FOR KIDS

SEEK is a free, three-week summer program that offers a fun and engaging educational experience for students in grades 3–5. SEEK aims to provide high-quality learning opportunities to underrepresented students who otherwise may not have access to a STEM education.

THE MUSEUM OF FLIGHT BOEING ACADEMY FOR STEM LEARNING FREE PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOL - RISING 9TH-12TH GRADE STUDENTS -WASHINGTON STATE

Private Pilot Ground School (PPGS) is a unique course that provides the opportunity for rising 9th-12th grade students* to explore the world of aviation while creating a base of aeronautical knowledge that pilots need to successfully pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) private pilot exam.

ASA MINORITY UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND EDUCATION PROJECT (MUREP) AEROSPACE ACADEMY - YORK CUNY COLLEGE - FREE VIRTUAL PROGRAM - 9TH TO 12TH GRADERS

The goal of the current NASA MAA (Version 2.0) is to utilize NASA’s unique resources to build the interest, skills and knowledge necessary for students to pursue STEM careers by engaging them in authentic STEM experiences built around NASA mission content and the NASA Communication Campaigns

Virtual Summer Session starts July 11 and ends on July 28, 2022 (Monday – Thursday only, 9 am to noon). Due to budgetary constraints, only high school grades (K9-12) will be served.

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE (NMUSAF) INTRODUCTION TO BECOMING A PILOT- FREE PROGRAM - AGES 14-18 WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, OH - FALL 2022

This FREE course has been designed to inspire towards, and educate students about a career as an Aviator. This program consist of introductory level courses, which will provide a brief overview of what an actual Flight School would be like.


Each session will consist of approximately 30-45 minutes of ground school, with the remaining time spent on the simulators applying newly learned concepts. During the simulated flight time, each student will receive one-on-one instruction from a current or former military, commercial or private pilot, or a flight simulation expert


There are classes from March 2022 to August 2022, however these classes fill up fast so please register today!! If you are youth organization you can schedule 6 students for a specific class.

NATIONAL SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE -UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND APPLIED SCIENCES - FREE CAMP 9TH-12TH GRADE

AUGUST 8 - 12, 2022 - APPLY TODAY! 

The National Summer Transportation Institute is a free, one-week non-residential program for high school students (rising 9th-12th graders) where they can learn about transportation engineering through awesome hands-on activities and group programs. Minority and underrepresented students are especially encouraged to apply.

Activities typically include:

  • Tour the regional traffic operation center and transit authority in Greater Niagara Falls and Buffalo region

  • Tour of Buffalo International Airport and Air Control Tower

  • Cruise along Erie Canal in Lockport

  • Spend time with professionals from transportation authorities and industry

AEROSPACE ACADEMY SUMMER PROGRAM 

The Aerospace Academy, a special summer academic experience, held July 11 – 21, 2022. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. (Pacific Time) every Monday through Thursday. The purpose of the academy is to expose students to the possibilities of becoming STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) professionals in the future by directly immersing themselves in the aerospace industry and culture that the Aerospace Corporation provides.

  1. Be a first-generation college student (neither parent attended a 4-year college)

  2. Must reside in the United States while participating in the program

  3. Currently attend a Title I school and have a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.75

AEROSPACE INSTITUTE SUMMER PROGRAM APPLICATION

The Aerospace STEM Institute is a virtual summer program held from July 25 to July 28, 2022. The event will run from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). By participating in the Institute, students will have an opportunity to ask experts questions directly, work on mathematical problems as they relate to space exploration and its implications, and be able to observe professionals working in diverse groups to assure mission success.

Students must:

Windstream Girls CODE 

The objective of this outreach initiative is to motivate academically prepared females to enter the fields of computer science, information science, or web design. This one-week residential camp is for rising 8th and 9th grade students. In addition to hands-on instruction, students will attend seminars featuring female professionals to learn more about opportunities available for females in computer and information science

THE NATIONAL SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE (NSTI) - ARIZONA

The National Summer Transportation Institute will engage you in projects and  field trips that demonstrate how engineers plan and maintain our systems of transportation around the state of Arizona. As an NSTI participant you will live on campus for one week while interacting with ASU engineering faculty and students, engaging in transportation-related field trips, and completing a project related to maintaining safe, sustainable, and efficient transit. This program is FREE and is designed for highly accomplished and motivated students.

This program is funded in partnership with the U.S. Federal Highway Administration and the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ARMY EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM 2022 AEOP HIGH SCHOOL APPRENTICESHIP APPLICATION

The AEOP High School Apprenticeship program places talented high school students in STEM research apprenticeships at U.S. Army Research Laboratories and Centers and universities.  Apprentices perform hands-on research under the direct supervision of a professional scientist or engineer.  Apprentices are exposed to the real world of research, receive valuable mentorship, and learn about education and career opportunities in STEM.  AEOP High School Apprenticeships are 5-8 weeks in length (minimum of 200 hours). They take place in the summer and are non-residential (participants must provide their own transportation, housing, and meals). Apprentices receive an educational stipend in support of the experience.

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has an exciting program called SEEK for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. The program will be virtual or in person starting June 13, 2022 .

BUILDING LEADERS FOR ADVANCING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Virginia Space Grant Consortium's FREE summer program will ignite your kids curiosity and help you discover what a career in STEM is like. BLAST participants are immersed in the college experience for 3 exciting days packed with STEM activities and demonstrations led by university faculty. Students may apply to attend any ONE session at either the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, or Old Dominion University.

The Princeton Summer Journalism Program traditionally hosts a 10-day residential journalism institute in August on the campus of Princeton University. Participants visit Princeton from their hometown or state and stay in University undergraduate dorms. The Princeton Summer Journalism Program is for students from low-income backgrounds

The GRASP lab and AI4ALL have partnered to teach Artificial Intelligence (AI) to high school students in the Philadelphia area. The program is focused on engaging students that are underrepresented in the field of AI. 

The program is for 9th and 10th grade students from lower-income backgrounds and racial/ethnic groups underrepresented in AI, such as Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Southeast Asian, and Native American. The BOSS Program is for students who are entering 12th grade and have a strong interest in pursuing a business education at the college level.

USC BOVARD SCHOLARS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS RESIDENTIAL FREE 2022 SUMMER PROGRAM

You will be assigned a coach who will provide you with hands-on, individualized support throughout the college application and essay-writing process.

  • We offer the program at no cost to students or families.  USC will pay for transportation to and from campus for students coming from outside of Southern California.

PAYS POMONA COLLEGE ACADEMY FOR YOUTH SUCCESS

The Pomona College Academy for Youth Success (PAYS) enrolls over 90 local high school students and seeks to support them in preparing for admission to selective and highly selective colleges and universities.  PAYS scholars engage in a thought-provoking combination of courses, cultural events, workshops, projects and field trips during the intensive 4-week, residential program as well as throughout the academic year.

  • Must reside within one of our four local counties (Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, or San Bernardino County)

  • Be a current 9th grade student

  • There is no cost for participation in PAYS. Pomona College covers all costs including housing, food, activities, and transportation to field trips. Students will only be required to bring basic school supplies, such as pencils and paper.

NORTHROP GRUMMAN SUMMER ENGINEERING CAMP AT USC

The Northrop Grumman Summer Engineering Camp at USC is a camp in which current 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students explore aerospace, civil, electrical, environmental and mechanical engineering with hands-on activities such as rockets, circuits, bridges and robots. The camp will run from July 18 to July 29 with Monday to Friday of each week. ARMY EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM 2022 - PLAYA VISTA, CA - 6TH TO 12TH GRADERS

GEMS at U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Army Research Laboratory (DEVCOM ARL West) (Playa Vista, CA) is a STEM enrichment program for students. This year, DEVCOM ARL West will hosting the problem virtually, to ensure a safe experience for all participants! This year we have three offerings:

GEMS I

  • This is a FREE one-week session for middle school students (rising 6th-8th graders).

  • No prior experience required!

  • If you’re interested in learning more about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), with activities that go beyond the normal classroom offerings, then this program is for you!

GEMS II

  • Students entering 9th-10th grade will acquire knowledge about various scientific disciplines through engaging demonstrations, tours, and hands-on laboratory activities throughout the free, one-week session.

GEMS III

  • This year, we'll be conducting a free GEMS III experience, targeted for rising 10th-12th graders, at DoD STARBASE in Los Alamitos, CA! Students will be learning how to build and program robots.
